Update on Today's Town Council Election

Voter turnout in morning is light; polls open until 7:00 p.m. today

Turnout for was light this morning as voters cast their ballots for either Kelly Burk or Dwight Dopilka. The two candidates are running to fill a seat on the Leesburg Town Council that was vacated when Ken Reid was elected to the Board of Supervisors.

Turnout was running at 3.1 percent around 10 a.m. this morning at Leesburg Community Church, polling place for the Greenway precinct. It was much lighter at Loudoun County High School, the Brandon Park precinct polling place, which had a turnout below 1 percent.

Around 11:15 a.m., about 4.8 percent of voters in the West Leesburg precinct had turned out to vote at Ida Lee Recreation Center, and the turnout was about 3 percent at Cool Spring Elementary School (Cool Spring precinct).

Pat Green, Chief Election Officer at the West Leesburg precinct, said that the turnout at his precinct appeared to be on track to reach the 10 percent turnout that the electoral board had projected.

Wendy Webb, Chief Election Officer for the Greenway precinct encouraged Leesburg residents to come out and vote.

“If only ten percent of the people vote, then your vote counts for ten people,” she said.
