With Increase in Jury Trials, Loudoun Sends Juror Questionnaire

About 40,000 surveys sent for Circuit Court, which marks beginning of jury trial process

Loudoun County has seen a "significant increase" in the number of jury trials and needs more residents available as jurors, Circuit Court Clerk Gary M. Clemens said Tuesday as he announced the release of a new juror questionnaire.

About 40,000 questionnaires are set to arrive at the homes of Loudoun County residents starting Aug. 15 through the end of the month.

The mailing is part of an annual push by the Supreme Court of Virginia to increase its roster of jurors, Clemens said in a release.

The Jury Management Department selects potential jurors from the list of residents who submit questionnaires, Clemens said. In the fall, the JMD will certify those qualified to serve, and use that final list to issue jury summons for 2013.

This year, responses can be submitted online instead of through the postal service. Potential jurors can visit the county's website to fill out the form and submit it online, which Clemens and Jury Manager Leslie Kelly said in a release was the preferred option. Residents can also put it in the mail.
