Virginia Tech student joins Phi Zeta

Charlotte Hatch a senior from Leesburg, Va., pursuing a doctorate in veterinary medicine in the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, has been inducted into the veterinary honor society, Phi Zeta - Chi Chapter.

The veterinary honor society looks to recognize and promote scholarship and research in matters pertaining to the welfare and diseases of animals. Phi Zeta - Chi Chapter stands for constant advancement of the veterinary profession, higher educational requirements, and high scholarship. Any candidate must be from a veterinary medical college where a chapter exists to be inducted.

Members must have completed at least two years of the professional curriculum, have good moral character, and possess high ideals regarding professional service conduct. To be elected, students must rank scholastically in the highest 25 percent of their veterinary medical class.

The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine is a two-state, three-campus professional school operated by the land-grant universities of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and the University of Maryland at College Park. Its flagship facilities, based at Virginia Tech, include the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, which treats more than 40,000 animals annually. Other campuses include the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, Va., and the Avrum Gudelsky Veterinary Center at College Park, home of the Center for Public and Corporate Veterinary Medicine. The college annually enrolls approximately 500 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and graduate students, is a leading biomedical and clinical research center, and provides professional continuing education services for veterinarians practicing throughout the two states.
