Heritage Baseball Player Signs with Washington College

Pride's Matt Chapman makes a comeback after ACL surgery.

Heritage High School senior and varsity baseball player Matt Chapman has officially accepted an offer to attend and play baseball at NCAA Division III Washington College in Chestertown, Md. next fall.

Washington College ended the 2012 season 28-12, which is their most successful season in the program’s history. They reached the Centennial Conference Tournament Championship Game for the first time ever in 2012.

Chapman, who plays either left or right field, has always been passionate about baseball.

“Since I was very young, even before little league began, I played baseball with my dad.  I am really excited about the opportunity to play at Washington College,” he said.

Chapman has been awarded both the Washington College Scholar Scholarship and an academic scholarship from the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut.

Chapman's recruiting is a success story: The outfielder sat out his entire sophomore year rehabilitating from ACL replacement surgery. Chapman also plays for the Colangelo Baseball 18U college showcase team.

He is considering a business management major with a minor in political science at Washington College.
