Lady Pride Soccer Teams Sweep Loudoun Valley

Heritage varsity and JV girls pick up wins at home

The Lady Pride defeated the Loudoun Valley Lady Vikings in both JV and Varsity contests on Thursday night.

The junior varsity squad started off the evening with a 3-0 victory.  The girls shut down the Vikings defense, not giving up any goals in the game.

Heritage scored their first goal of the night right before the half.  They added goal number two on a breakaway sprint by number 6, who followed up her own blocked shot to finish for the score.  The Pride added on one more in the second half and walked away with the shutout victory.

Head coach of the JV Lady Pride, DeButts said “We started the season with fifteen on our roster. We had twelve available tonight with only one sub, so we had a lot of girls playing out of position.” Coach DeButts commented further that she was “proud of them stepping up.”

The JV girls look to carry the momentum into this weekend.  “Our energy is high.  Little uncomfortable playing three games in a row, but it should be fun,” Coach DeButts states.

The varsity team followed up with a strong 6-3 victory over  Loudoun Valley.  The Pride were first to score, but the Vikings quickly tied the game on a penalty kick.  Loudoun Valley took their only lead of the night soon after, breaking through the left side of the Pride’s defense.

The Pride’s offense stepped up and knocked in two more goals in the first forty minute period.  The final goal of the first half came off the foot of number 11 tapping in an empty net goal giving the Lady Pride the 3-2 lead at the break.

Heritage took control in the second half by dominating on both sides of the field.  The offense piled on three more goals, while the defense stood strong allowing only one goal within the last few minutes of play.  The Pride took the game 6-3.

Varsity’s head coach Ascunce, thought his team played well and showed “high intensity”, especially after “a week and a half without any games due to rain outs.”  Coach Ascunce knows the key to beating highly ranked Stone Bridge tomorrow will be having “no mistakes in the back.”

The Lady Pride look to sweep Stone Bridge tomorrow as JV plays at home at 6:00, while the Varsity team will travel with game time set at 7:30.
