Lady Raiders Crush Tuscarora

Raiders defeat Huskies in five innings, 13-1

The Loudoun County Raiders traveled across town Tuesday night to take on fellow Leesburg high school team, the Tuscarora Lady Huskies.  The Raiders put up thirteen runs and held their opponent to one single run in the five inning match up.

The Raiders struck early by scoring four runs on three hits in the first inning, a lead they would not give up.  Tuscarora also looked to score in the first as they loaded the bases, but the Raider defense shut them down and L.C. escaped the inning unharmed.

Tuscarora’s defense got two quick outs to start the second inning, but then the hot bats of Loudoun County struck again. Shortstop Erin Ertel singled and was then knocked in by a double from Cortni Reitz giving L.C. a 5-0 lead.

The Huskies’ offense again put runners on in the second, as Tori Richardson started off the bottom of the inning with a bloop single.  The inning continued for Tuscarora getting a few runners on, but an inning ending double play got the Raiders out of the jam.

Things did not get any better for the Huskies.  The combination of timely hitting from the Raider bats and a handful of errors by the Husky defense produced six more runs for Loudoun County in the third inning.

Facing an 11-0 deficit, the Huskies tried to get things going in the third.  However, similar to the previous two innings, they could not capitalize when having runners in scoring position.  Lady Raiders’ pitcher, Kiley Jacobus, rung up three strikeouts in the inning and took a shutout into the fourth.

Loudoun County added a run on an RBI single from Ertel in the top of the fourth.  In the bottom of the inning consecutive hits by Pearson and Mayflower put runners on the corner.  Hammier then slammed a base hit and with a throwing error on the play Tuscarora scored their only run of the ballgame.

The Raiders scored once more in the top of the fifth.  In the bottom of the inning Jacobus and the rest of the defense recorded three straight outs and the game ended, 13-1.

Head coach of the Lady Raiders, Amber Jackson, said “I thought we did a great job of sitting back and getting a pitch to hit.”  Coach Jackson was pleased with Jacobus’ night commenting “Kiley pitched very well and hit her spots.”

The Raiders look to duplicate their performance when they face Potomac Falls at home on Friday night.  Loudoun County now sits at ten wins and four losses on the season.

The loss takes the Lady Huskies to 3-10 on their season.  They look to pick up a win Friday as they travel to Dominion.
