Raiders Snatch Victory from the Panther's Jaws

After a grueling first three quarters, the Raiders JV Boys Lacrosse pulled it together in the final, scoring a 9-7 victory against Potomac Falls.

The Raiders boys JV lacrosse team stole victory from the jaws of the Potomac Falls Panthers Monday night, after nearly becoming their next meal in a dismal first three quarters.

But their 9-7 victory was pulled out of the bag only after Potomac Falls punished them for the first three quarters, which their coach attributed to post-Spring Break softness.

“It was evident from the start the Raider’s were suffering from two weeks between games and the affects of Spring Break,” said Head Coach Dennis O’Hara. “A much-improved Panther team took advantage of the Raider’s sluggish play, striking quickly and jumping out to a two goal lead.”

The Raiders trailed 1-3 at the end of the first quarter and traded goals with the raiders throughout the second and third quarters, trailing 2-4 at the half and 4-6 at the end of the third.

But they pulled it together in the fourth quarter stringing together five unanswered goals to take 9-6 lead with two minutes remaining in the game. The Panthers responded with a late goal, bringing the final to 9-7.

O’Hara lauded his team for getting it together to bring about that victory.

“Max Shipman and Dalton Wilson stepped up at face-offs, battling to win several in key situations,” he said.  “Matt Lancaster‘s play at long-stick middy resulted in several ground balls in the fourth quarter, denying the Panthers possessions and opportunities to run their offense.”

The Raider’s travel to Broad Run High School to face the Spartans at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
