Tuscarora Huskies Conquer Park View in Regular Season Finale

Little Leaguers cheer the Huskies on to victory, winning 2-1 in pitching duel

The Central Loudoun Little Leaguers joined the crowd Monday night to cheer on the home team, Tuscarora.  The CLLL Night, held by the Tuscarora athletic department, was a night for the players and parents to come out and enjoy an evening of baseball fun.  Players of all sizes came out in their little league uniforms in support of the event.  The little guys watched with admiration as the Huskies pulled out a 2-1 hard fought victory over the visiting Park View Patriots.

Park View came out aggressive in the first inning.  With runners on and two out, the Patriots’ Kyle Jeffries knocked in a big RBI single.  This gave the Patriots the early lead, but their offensive momentum did not carry throughout the game.  That first inning solo run would be their only run in the ballgame.

The Huskies’ bats also came out strong in the first.  Leadoff batter, Dalton Scanlon, wasted no time as he singled on the very first pitch faced.  The next batter, Burke, attempted to advance the runner with a bunt, but the Patriots were able to throw out the lead runner at second.

The Huskies then caught a break when Park View’s pitcher, Mason, made a wild throw over to first base.  Burke advanced to third base on the error and then easily scored on a single from catcher, Hunter Oke.  Outfielder, Lang, followed with a single through the right side of the infield.  This scored another run and gave Tuscarora the lead.

The two runs scored by the Huskies in the bottom of the first would be enough for their pitcher, Tyler Dietrich.  After a little shaky first inning, Dietrich battled back and shut down the Patriots offense for the remainder of the game.

The starting pitchers (Dietrich-Tusc, Mason-Park View) for both squads put up a handful of three up three down innings and gave fans a spectacular pitching performance to view.  That first inning proved to be the deciding factor in the game, as the final score was 2-1.

Head coach of the Huskies, Mark Bauer, said “I felt like two runs with Tyler on the mound were going to be enough.  Tyler had his best outing of the year.”

Dietrich helped carry his team as Tuscarora advances to district playoffs set to begin this Friday.

In anticipation of playing Broad Run in the playoffs, Bauer said “We are coming in with a pitcher who faced Broad Run before.  We played them close.  We’re putting the ball in play a little bit more now, but we’re going to have to work hard for runs.”

The little leaguers joined the Huskies on the field after the game in celebration.   The CLLL participants jumped in for a few photos before lining up to the run the bases.  Smiles were abounding as the little guys watched the Huskies celebrate their final regular season victory.
