Hurricane Arthur is expected to bring hurricane-force winds to the coast of North Carolina, and may also impact part of the Virginia coastline by Friday morning.

Arthur has reached wind speeds of up to 75 mph, with an expectation that the storm's winds will increase to up to 85 mph as it moves along the coast of North Carolina late Thursday and into Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for Virginia Beach and the southeast Virginia coastline. A hurricane warning is in effect for much of the North Carolina coastline.

The official forecast shows the center of Arthur moving "very close" to the North Carolina Outer Banks late tonight and early Friday, according to the latest NWS report.

The storm is then expected to move away from the coast and stay over water as it pushes north. The Weather Channel notes that Hurricane Arthur may impact weather in coastal communities including Cape Cod and Nantucket this weekend.
