Leesburg's Gearing Up for Fourth of July Parade

Organizers are inviting those interested in participating to pre-register online or at Ida Lee.

The Town of Leesburg’s 2013 Independence Day Celebration begins at 10 a.m. July 4 and includes a wide range of activities for the 23rd annual event.

The parade starts at 10 a.m., with participants marching from Ida Lee Park south along King Street to Fairfax Street. Civic groups, youth organizations, community groups, families and others are encouraged to participate. There is no cost to participate, and pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Submit an application online at www.idalee.org, or at the front desk of Ida Lee Park Recreation Center.

Kicking off the parade again this year is the American Originals Fife and Drum Corps, sponsored by Toth Financial, offering patriotic music. The group will perform at the intersection of King and Market streets prior to the start of the parade. Residents will want to be downtown by 9:45 a.m. to hear the fifes and drums corps perform.

In addition, this year’s parade features the Annual Patriot’s Cup Competition, sponsored by Leesburg Today. The award goes to the best parade entry. The winner can show off their trophies on their floats or vehicles. The winner’s name will be engraved on the Patriot Cup.

To accommodate the parade, Leesburg will close downtown streets at 9:30 a.m., at which time parade participants must be at the front field of Ida Lee Park.
