Local Charities Receive Donations Totaling Nearly $1 Million

The trustees of the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation awarded the 2012 grants to Loudoun-based charities, including Loudoun Literary Council and Arc of Loudoun.

 

The trustees of the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation awarded grants of nearly $1 million to Loudoun charities for 2012.

In announcing the conclusion of its grant cycle, the foundation noted grants totaling more than $47 million had been made to various charities, following the wishes of Dr. Claude Moore, the former Sterling resident who directed his estate be used to promote education and other community causes.

Included among the gifts to Loudoun-based charities in 2012 are:

• Loudoun Youth, Inc., $10,000

• Inova Nursing Scholarships, $150,000

• Arc of Loudoun, $50,000

• Loudoun Cares, $50,000

• Every Citizen Has Opportunities, Inc. (ECHO), $26,000

• Loudoun Education Foundation (High School Graduation Party Project), $38,000

• Loudoun Education Foundation (Teachers Endorsement Scholarship Project), $27,000

• Loudoun Education Foundation (Reality Store), $6,000

• Loudoun Literary Council, $50,000

• Loudoun County General Distributions, $200,000

• Claude Moore Healthcare Academies, $350,000

"Those gifts together with the more than the $1.2 million dollars in real estate taxes we pay annually, demonstrates the Foundation's commitment to Loudoun County," said Executive Director J Hamilton Lambert.
