Volunteers Plant Trees; Help Improve Water Quality of Big Spring Creek

Local volunteers planted 200 trees at Ida Lee Park, which will improve water quality.

More than 100 volunteers helped plant 200 trees along Big Spring Creek on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Ida Lee Park in Leesburg.

Volunteers included individuals, families, scout troops and other civic organizations. Oaks, maples, elms, bald cypress, and poplars were planted on approximately 3.5 acres of land bordering the creek.

As the trees grow, they will improve the water quality in the stream by filtering out nutrients, contaminants and sediment while also providing beneficial wildlife habitat.
