Freeze Your Gizzard 5k, Quidditch Invasion and Holly Jolly Jazz Hands

Run, Turkey, Run:
 Freeze Your Gizzard returns this weekend with a 5k run and a 1 mile fun run. 5K registration: $25 ($30 race day). Fun run registration: $10 ($15 race day). 9 a.m., Saturday. Ida Lee Park. 60 Ida Lee Dr. NW, Leesburg.

Slimming Before Trimming: All ages welcome for the Herndon Turkey Trot 5k. Overall male and female winners win a Thanksgiving Dinner. $15 pre-registration. 4 p.m. Saturday. Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Ave., Herndon.

Brooms Flying (not really, but still fun): Harry Potter's favorite past-time travels to Leesburg this weekend for the Quidditch Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship. The event includes exclusive merchandise for Potter fans, along with "kidditch" sessions for children. Free. Loudoun Soccer Park, 19798 Sycolin Road, Leesburg.

Holly Jolly Jazz Hands: The Institute of Performing Arts for Youth and Creative Dance Center offers its largest production yet of "Nutcracker in a Shell — All Jazzed Up!" It's a shorter, jazzed-up spin on the holiday classic. $12, $8 seniors and children. 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, noon and 4 p.m. Sunday. Heritage High School, 520 Evergreen Mills Road SE, Leesburg.

Six in Ten: Potomac Falls High School's theatre department presents "Take Ten! A Night of Short Plays." A cast and crew of more than 30 students will perform six comedies and dramas. $7, $5 for staff and students. 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Potomac Falls High School, 46400 Algonkian Parkway, Sterling.
