“This event is in honor of my mom, Theresa,” Alexis said about the event, which stands for Totally Knock Out Melanoma. “My mom was a very special person. She would comfort me when I felt down. She would warm me when I was cold, and she would give me hugs when I was happy, sad or angry. My Girl Scout Troop and I are hoping that everyone can come to this race and that melanoma would go away.” To register, volunteer, sponsor or get more information, visit: TKOMelanoma.com.

Gate Gallery’s Summer Demo Series Begins Sunday in Round Hill

Head to Round Hill for the first in a series of Demo Days from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at the Gateway Gallery, 35246 Harry Byrd Highway (Route 7). “One of the biggest questions people have when they come in and see the work is how it was made, so we thought we would take a little time this summer and give them the chance to find out,” says Gateway’s Development Committee chair, Jill Evans-Kavaldjian. Each Sunday, a different member artist will take up residence near the front of the gallery space and set up work to make while they answer questions from visitors. Don Maloney’s Woodturning will be featured on Mother’s Day. Among the demonstrations scheduled for May and June are painting, printmaking, embroidery, and woodworking. Find more information, including the complete Demo Days schedule, on the Gallery’s website, www.thegatewaygallery.com, or by email at info@thegatewaygallery.com.
