Where to Dispose of Your Weird Trash in Loudoun County

Make sure to check out this list of accepted items for the next Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) event, which takes place Saturday, June 28 in South Riding.

Loudoun County residents are invited to participate in the next Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection, which takes place Saturday June 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Freedom High School in South Riding.

Hazardous waste items include (but are not limited to): 
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Furniture polish
  • Household batteries
  • Metal polishes
  • Oil-based paints/stains/varnishes
  • Old fuels including gas/oil mixes
  • Paint thinners
  • Pesticides/insecticides/herbicides
  • Pool chemicals
  • Rust removers
  • Waxes
  • Wood preservatives
Latex or water-based paints are not hazardous and can be disposed of in your household garbage after being dried or solidified. Items that are NOT accepted at the events include:
  • Ammunition/explosives
  • Antifreeze
  • Automobile batteries
  • Household electronics such as computers and televisions
  • Hypodermic needles
  • Lead-acid batteries
  • Pharmaceuticals/medications
  • Propane tanks
  • Radioactive materials
  • Used motor oil
Many of these items can be recycled or disposed of at the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility on 21101 Evergreen Mills Road

The Household Hazardous Waste Program is operated by the Loudoun County Department of Construction and Waste Management.
