Loudoun Parks & Rec Offices Closed May 30-31

The department will reopen at its new office space in Ashburn June 3.

The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS), including the Loudoun County Area Agency on Aging, on May 30 will permanently close its administrative offices at 215 Depot Court SE in Leesburg. The offices will reopen at the new location, 20145 Ashbrook Place, Suite 170, in Ashburn June 3.   All phone numbers will remain the same. Safe-T-Ride to Add a Shuttle During Peak Hours

The addition is expected to reduce wait times for passengers.

Leesburg Safe-T-Ride plans to provide an additional shuttle bus during peak ridership hours in an attempt to minimize wait times for passengers. The additional shuttle will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday starting June 17 and ending Sept. 13. Leesburg Safe-T-Ride, paid for by the Town of Leesburg and operated by Virginia Regional Transit, offers free the shuttle service to give pedestrians a safe option for crossing Route 15 near Fort Evans and Edwards Ferry Roads.  The shuttle route includes stops at the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets, Fort Evans Plaza I, Battlefield Shopping Center (Shoppers Food Warehouse), Loudoun County’s Shenandoah Building, the Montessori School, Evans Ridge Apartments and …

Leesburg’s Memorial Day Celebration Set for May 27

The annual event honoring those who’ve lost their lives serving our country’s military takes place on the Loudoun County Courthouse grounds.

Next Monday, join the Leesburg Town Council and the Memorial Day Host Committee for the annual Memorial Day Observance, starting at 10 a.m. at the Loudoun County Courthouse in Leesburg. Thoughts of the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who’ve given their lives for the country weigh heavy on the minds of Americans each Memorial Day and observances such as Leesburg’s provide the opportunity to our appreciation. Sterling's Healthy Hound Playground to Celebrate Grand Opening June 1

The doggie day care will offer free tours of the facility in Sterling.

Healthy Hound Playground will host its grand opening celebration in Sterling on June 1. Healthy Hound Playground is a 6,200 square foot indoor dog day care and boarding facility. Amenities include a cage-free environment, regular outdoor potty breaks, playing fetch, and going on walks or runs with trained pet professionals. The celebration will include free food and dog treats, soft drinks, raffle prizes, and organic and holistic dog food and treat vendors doing on-site demonstrations. Attendees will have the option to take free tours of the facility throughout the day. Chesapeake pastor and attorney E.W. Jackson is the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor of Virginia.

Pastor and attorney E.W. Jackson won the Republican nomination to run for lieutenant governor of Virginia over the weekend, and a YouTube video he made last year with strong words against Planned Parenthood is getting attention. Jackson, an African-American minister, lawyer and author from Chesapeake, posted the “message to black Christians” in September 2012, chiding African-Americans for their “slavish devotion” to the Democratic Party and saying that Planned Parenthood had been more lethal to black citizens than the Ku Klux Klan. Loudoun YouthFest Returns in June

The annual event draws thousands of teens to the Brambleton Town Center.

Teens will take over the Brambleton Town Center on June 15 for the annual Loudoun YouthFest. The event, now in its eighth year, was started by and continues to be run by teens.   “Although there are adults involved, the youth take an active role in the running of the event,” said Carol Kost, of Loudoun Youth, Inc., the non-profit partner that helps put on the event. “They really run the day and that’s kind of awesome to see,” Kost said. The YouthFest includes local exhibitors such as area nonprofits offering services and service opportunities for teens.
