Dear Editor, I am responding to the letter from Michael Turner claiming Del. Joe May is a fiscally conservative cost cutter. It appears these comments were taken word for word from one of the numerous mail pieces May has sent out. On the subject of Joe’s Family Foundation rating, it is deceptive for him to imply that rating is a pro-life indicator, given it did not weigh in on pro-life votes; only on an array of handpicked votes on a wide range of issues. In contrast, his 75 percent pro-abortion score from NARAL is specific to that one issue. Dear Editor, Who is David LaRock? I’ve been asking that question for a couple of months now that he is running against our Delegate Joe May. What is his background, his education, his public service, his military service? I don’t believe you’ll find it on his website. His staunch anti-abortion platform appears to be his main interest and what he will work on if elected. He is also apparently in favor of sitting in gridlock and driving on unsafe roadways as he is against funding for transportation, which I find inconsistent, as he is a developer. Dear Editor, I have yet to see one concrete idea from David LaRock on any issue of importance to our state. David seems content only to attack Delegate Joe May by taking parts of his record out of context and weakly asserting he hasn’t always been there for conservatives. We need to defend men of character like Joe May who make the hard choices for us and bring conservative results home. Dear Editor, While I have supported Delegate Joe May's run for office in previous years, I am supporting Dave LaRock this primary. Dave is running for office out of conviction and a desire to accurately represent the desires of his constituents. Dave LaRock has chosen to run for the House of Delegates not because he desires power or control, but because he became aware of Delegate Joe May's appalling voting record. The CDC recently indicated that 1 in 50 children have Autism, causing a stir among parents and those considering children.
With last month’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) reporting that as many as 1 in 50 children in U.S. schools have Autism, the topic of Autism has created an increase in parental anxiety in my practice as a psychologist. Parents want to know what the CDC’s study and those numbers could mean for them and their own potential for having an Autistic child. The parents who are most concerned are those who are either planning for pregnancy or who are pregnant and expecting. One parent I met with recently expressed a profound sense of relief after learning that the sex of their fetus is female, reminding me that boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed with Autism than girls. Dear Editor: In the June 11 Republican primary, one of the key issues that will determine my vote is whether or not the candidate is pro-life. I know Delegate Joe May (R-33) claims to be pro-life, but I think it's important that people realize that his record shows otherwise. “Pro-Life” is a term that is easily used and rarely defined. To conservatives, it means all human life is valued, and that all humans - even the unborn - have a right to life. Delegate Joe May’s record shows a very different set of values on life. Something is broken in the system used to determine school boundaries in Loudoun County. In the midst of the boundary hearings, school planning zones are being split when new plans are announced, walk zones are being established without safety review or public input, and HOA has become the “official” definition of community. School Board Bylaws 2-32 list in order the initial considerations to be considered when making changes to boundaries. They are as follows: When Proximity is ignored, Trailside Middle School is not the middle school that Newton-Lee Elementary School students will attend. These two schools are located on the same site, are just 70 feet apart, share a common entrance, and will be required to share fields, parking, etc. …
