Leesburg law enforcement, assisted by a Virginia State Police K9, swept the building.
A bomb threat made at Tuscarora High School in Leesburg proved to be a false alarm, according to Loudoun County Public Schools spokesman Wayde Byard. The Leesburg Police Department was on the scene, according to Leesburg Today. Leesburg police spokesman Lt. Jeff Dube referred inquiries to the school system. "We had a non-specific bomb threat at Tuscarora today," Byard said. "By non-specific, I mean it was phrased in such a way that it did not appear credible." However, authorities were called. The Leesburg Police Department and a Virginia State Police K9 unit swept the building and deemed it safe. "We take all threats seriously," Byard said, adding that he had fielded 100 to 150 calls from concerned residents by 2:40 p.m. Byard also said …

Students learn about careers they are interested, including some of the less exciting aspects.
For many students, junior year of high school marks the time when they begin to focus on career and college goals. Parents and teachers begin asking, “What do you want to do after high school?” Each year Loudoun County Public Schools and the Loudoun School-Business Partnership Executive Council organizes a Job-For-A-Day Program. On Wednesday, 400 high school juniors from around the county had an opportunity to explore various fields of work. Participating businesses and organizations in the past have included Lockheed Martin, Fairfax Fire and Rescue, AOL and the Central Intelligence Agency, as well as Inova Loudoun Hospital. Inova Loudoun placed more than 60 students for the program and each student worked in an area of interest, such as …

Four performances are scheduled this weekend for the family-friendly, classic musical.
Montana Brown, Heritage High School’s drama department director, knew it would be hard to come up with a spring musical as popular as last year’s production, Legally Blonde - The Musical. “I struggled to find something as epic, and then decided that West Side Story would be a good show for our school,” Brown said. “Everyone told me there is no way you are going to pull this off.” This weekend, the community is invited to come and see how they did just that. More than 100 students auditioned for a cast of 50; that’s more auditions than any other show Heritage has put on. To draw the students in, Brown billed it as a Gangs of New York meets Romeo and Juliet type of show, complete with fight choreography and dancing, and she told them, “It …

The new maps are included with this article. All maps can be viewed on the LCPS website. The board is scheduled to vote on the plan April 23. Additional proposals are presented, more could come as residents clamor to keep their communities together; public hearing set for April 15, vote April 23.
Three new plans were submitted hours before the start of a public hearing this past week for the creation of new attendance boundaries for the Ashburn and Dulles North areas, leaving residents scrambling to see whether the plans would help or hinder their neighborhoods’ efforts to stay together. Because of the growth in eastern Loudoun, the school system has been steadily building schools, which requires adjustments to attendance boundaries. The addition of two new high schools (one in 2014 and one in 2015) and one new middle school in 2014 are also impacting existing middle schools and high schools. Loudoun School Board Chairman Eric Hornberger (Ashburn) explained at the onset of the meeting that three new plans had been submitted, …

The exercise at Loudoun Valley HS in Purcellville was intended to help officers prepare for emergency situations.
Loudoun County conducted a safety training exercise at Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville Monday morning that simulated a situation involving an armed intruder at the school. During the event, which last from about 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., public access was restricted at the school. Students were off for the day, while teachers were back for a work day following spring break. This exercise focused on the decision-making and coordination processes associated with responding to an armed intruder. The staff of Loudoun Valley High School has volunteered to participate because of the importance it places on school security. By conducting such exercises, participants hope to test current policies, practices and procedures, while educating those…
Talented students, an inspiring teacher, and a dedicated faculty and PTO put on an ambitious production for the community.
Students at Belmont Ridge Middle School are in the final stretch of rehearsing their spring musical production Beauty and the Beast. The Walt Disney Broadway musical begins this weekend and continues into the next. Producing a Broadway-length, two-and-a-half hour musical with 196 middle-schoolers might sound overwhelming, but Jason Augustowski was up for the task. Not only is he managing it with finesse, his enthusiasm and teaching techniques inspire and motivate the students. As a language arts teacher at the school, many of "Mr. A's" students choose to be in the annual spring musical because of his outgoing personality. “Mr. A is an amazing director,” said Ally Goodnight, who plays Babette in the show. “He makes it really fun and somehow…
