FBLA Awards Given, Officers Elected for Region

Ceremony at Broad Run High School in Ashburn included presentation of colors by Loudoun County High School ROTC.

More than 200 students, teacher-advisers and guests attended the Shenandoah Region association of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Spring Regional Conference and Awards Ceremony March 16 at Broad Run High School, home to Regional President Zachary Kerns (Class of 2013) and Regional Adviser Christine Good. Participating high schools from Loudoun included Briar Woods, Broad Run, Freedom, Heritage, Loudoun County, Park View, Potomac Falls, Stone Bridge and Woodgrove. Ashburn Teacher: I Did Not Drink On Campus

Michael L. Hitzges tells ABC News he had been drinking the night before being charged with being drunk in public at his school.

The Broad Run High School driving instructor who was charged Monday with being drunk in public at the school says he did not drink any alcohol on school grounds. Michael L. Hitzges, 47, of Ashburn, a biology teacher and driver education instructor, faces charges of drunk in public, at the school, after someone alerted the school resource officer assigned to Broad Run. "I wasn't drinking at school," Hitzges told ABC News Channel 7 outside his Loudoun County apartment Tuesday. "I had some drinks the night before, woke up and went to work. I wouldn't do that. Spartan Spectacular at Broad Run Saturday

Competitors from dozens of schools will descend upon Ashburn to vie for best drum line and best winter guard.

The Broad Run High School Band Boosters Association will serve as host this weekend to winter guard units and drum lines from dozens of schools compete at the 2013 Spartan Spectacular. Performances begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Broad Run High School, with 42 winter guards and 19 drum lines registered. Admission costs $12 for adults and $10 for students.
