Lola's Cookies & Treats Prepares for Easter Holiday

An assortment of cookies and cupcakes are currently available to purchase.

It’s been a busy week so far at Lola’s Cookies & Treats as they continue to fill last-minute orders prior to Sunday’s Easter holiday. “We’ve been really busy here the last couple years around Easter and I expect we will be again this year,” said owner Lorraine Hooper. “I think anytime families get together and gather for a meal they always need a little help putting it all together. It’s a festive and happy occasion so it’s always nice to kind of enhance that with a festive dessert.” Hooper said she is no longer taking custom orders but has plenty of other sweet treats available. Leesburg Resident Named Semifinalist in Peeps Contest

Winners in the annual event hosted by The Washington Post were announced last week.

The Washington Post announced the winner of its sixth annual Peeps Diorama Contest, and among them was Leesburg resident Susan Shaw and two of her coworkers, Sue Robinson of Fairfax and Alison Ebersole of Arlington. The team was announced as a semifinalist for their “Not Another 2012 Disaster Movie!” display, which portrayed the nation’s capital in the middle of a big mess. Shaw said this was the fourth year her team had entered the contest but only the first time they were recognized. “How this initially started was we wanted to do a Washington Monument earthquake with peeps propelling down it,” Shaw said. Before they knew it, Shaw said, the team was preparing an entire scene of the U.S. Capital, created from paper models. “We started …

Annual Easter Egg Hunt Scheduled for Saturday

At least 16,000 eggs will be available during the hunt, which will take place at Ida Lee Park.

The 20th annual Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled to take place at Ida Lee Park this Saturday. More than 16,000 eggs will be available for children of all ages to find. “The best thing about this Easter egg hunt is that it’s a full afternoon of activities,” said Special Events Supervisor Rachel Goodwin. “Obviously the kids will have the opportunity to hunt for eggs but there’s also face painting, balloon artists, rides and inflatables all on site, as well as food vendors. So families can plan to make a day of it really.” Goodwin said the event has a great turnout each year, however attendance is closely linked to the weather.  Tomorrow’s forecast calls for morning showers with a high of 58 degrees, according to The Weather Channel.  Either way…
