An Earth Day planting at the school in Leesburg aims at educating residents about the importance of trees.
Town of Leesburg and Loudoun County Public Schools representatives gathered with students at Heritage High School Monday to plant a London Plane tree in recognition of Arbor Day. Arbor Day falls on the last Friday in April, but the celebration came a little early to accommodate the students’ schedules. Earth Day seemed just as appropriate a day for the ceremony. Tom Seeman, chairman of the Leesburg Tree Commission offered a few words about the importance of trees. “They shade our environment. They absorb pollution,” he said, adding that the goal of the annual planting is to “enhance, protect and expand the tree canopy in Leesburg.” The Tree Commission participated in the Leesburg Flower & Garden Festival over the weekend, giving away about…

Schools vehicle was traveling from Heritage High School to a swim meet in Manassas.
The driver of a bus that crashed enroute to a high school swim meet Friday — closing Route 15 for two hours — has been issued a citation for failure to yield right of way, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. The bus left Heritage High School in Leesburg with 41 students on board around 5:18 p.m. Friday, LCSO spokeswoman Liz Mills said. When the driver of the school bus turned onto Route 15 from Masons Lane, it went "into the path of a northbound 1997 Ford F250," deputies wrote in a report. The driver, along with five teens and another adult on the bus, were treated at local hospitals and released, according to the report. A second bus responded to the scene to take the remaining students to their destination. The remaining …

Each week, "Backpack Buddies" sends low-income students home with enough food for the weekend.
As the minutes click down to the Friday afternoon bell, most Loudoun County teenagers are thinking about the big game, performance or their plans for the weekend. But for some, the only thought on their mind is when they'll get the chance to eat again. Hearing about that kind of struggle is what prompted two Heritage High School seniors to start Backpack Buddies, a project that sends their classmates in need home with enough food for the weekend. Senior Austin Brundage met this summer with a countywide organization that supports Backpack Buddies, which already exsists at some Loudoun County elementary schools, and decided to expand it to include Heritage, according to a news release put out by the school Thursday. Classmate Cody James …

I doubt we are going to see any fixes unless we get new planners, as the intersections are being made worse. The three examples of horrible planning is the left turn from River Creek onto East bound Rt. 7 after coming from Wegmans. You are pointing into oncoming traffic and if hit from behind... More pronounced is the South Rt. 7/15 bypass left onto Ft. Evans going toward Home Depot and the …   more ›
