During stop in Leesburg, Romney continued pressing his case against Obama.
While Republican candidate Gov. Mitt Romney ended his campaign stop in Leesburg Wednesday with comments that he wants to bring America together, one of his supporters kicked off the event by seemingly questioning President Barack Obama’s faith. “I know who Romney prays to. That’s the same god that I pray, too,” said musician Andy Griggs, adding that he wasn’t so sure about other folks in Washington, DC. An estimated 8,000 people showed up to see Romney speak at Ida Lee Park in Loudoun County. Stop in Leesburg comes day after second debate with President Barack Obama.
Dennis Miller joined Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for a campaign stop Wednesday at Ida Lee Park in Leesburg, Va. A day after his second debate with President Barack Obama on Tuesday in New York, Romney criticized Obama for not laying out a second-term agenda in front of a crowd of about 8,000. Nationally, experts have been drawn to Loudoun as key to whether Virginia swings red or blue in in November. Team Ida Lee won last weekend's championship by one point.
Team Ida Lee won the 20th annual Leesburg Cup championship at the Ida Lee Tennis Center on Sept. 16, according to a press release from the Town of Leesburg. "The local team finished one point better than runner-up Middleburg Tennis Club and took two matches during Sunday’s decisive last round to edge Middleburg by a score of 9 to 8 in total matches won," said a press release. Kitty Foster captained the Ida Lee squad, and helped provide the winning margin of victory Sunday when she turned back MTC’s Kim Smithers in a pivotal head-to-head singles matchup. The Ida Lee Tennis team claimed the 2012 Morgan Dennis Cup at the Middleburg Tennis Club on Sunday, June 17. With the win, Team Ida Lee broke a ten-year drought in this prestigious event which features competition between club members and staff pros from Chestnut Forks Tennis Club, Middleburg Tennis Club, and Ida Lee’s A.V. Symington Tennis Center. Team Ida Lee, captained by Kitty Foster, claimed the team overall title with a 10-8 score over the squad from Chestnut Forks. The final scores were calculated by total matches won by each team during the entire weekend. Events included Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Leesburg’s Senior Women’s Tennis Team secured their first 3.0 Senior National Championship on Sunday, Oct. 30 after they defeated the Lake Oswego (OR) team at the 2011 United States Tennis Association (USTA) League National Championships in Indian Wells, Ca. The Leesburg team went undefeated in their quest for the national championship. On Aug. 28, they won the District Tournament in Wintergreen, Va. and went on to win the Sectional Championship at Newport News, Va. on Sept, 9. The Town of Leesburg Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Loudoun Interfaith Relief to offer its 6th annual charity dance and food drive at Ida Lee Recreation Center Friday evening from 7 to 10 p.m. Donations of non-perishable food and goods will be collected in lieu of admission to be distributed through Interfaith Relief.
