The self-supporting convenience store will help prepare disabled students and adults for actual employment while serving patrons who visit the Paxton campus.
Students and staff from the Aurora School gathered around the Peacock House Monday afternoon to celebrate the grand opening of the Paxton Attraction. Executive Director Jennifer Lassiter described it as a small, self-supporting convenience store, which offers sandwiches, snack and drinks for the campus' patrons. Adults with disabilities will run it, she said, as well as Aurora students who are learning vocational skills. “They can practice their skills in the Paxton Attraction and then whenever we find them employment in the community they will have the skills they need to be successful,” Lassiter said, adding that the store will allow students to take inventory, work the register, prep meals and keep up with the building’s maintenance. …

Unfortunately, he was unable to combine both businesses, he said, but so far he is happy with the turnout. “It’s been great. This is the funnest business that I have opened. When the kids come in here their eyes light up,” Azar said, adding that he has had full support from the local community. “The community is unbelievable. I love Leesburg. Mayor Kristen Umstattd officiated Tuesday evening's event, which welcomed well over 100 people who came out to show their support.
The parking lot was full as was the store during Wolf Furniture’s ribbon cutting and grand opening event on Tuesday. The Leesburg location is the first store to open in the state of Virginia and is one of 12 stores that are family owned. According to fourth generation owner Doug Wolf, it took five years to turn the new furniture store into a reality. In 2007, Wolf Furniture announced that they would be canceling the construction of their new furniture showroom. Following a complete reorganization of the town’s land development process, including the creation of a new department of plan review, Wolf Furniture came back to the town in early 2011 with renewed plans to build their Leesburg location.
