One Loudoun Ballpark Set for April 3 Vote

Scores turnout at Farmwell Station Middle School to express their views on proposed professional sports stadium.

A proposal to permit a 5,500-seat ballpark in One Loudoun that would double as the home for both professional baseball and soccer teams is set for an April 3 vote by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. Dozens of speakers and observers attended a public hearing Monday night at Farmwell Station Middle School to voice their support or concerns. Transportation and noise remained top concerns not just because of games, but also because of the 17 concerts that would be permitted each year, under the current proposal. One concern raised by supervisors were additional changes to the One Loudoun project that appeared to be only tangentially related to the stadium. “I feel a little taken advantage of in the process,” said County Chairman Scott …

The board voted unanimously to pass the rezoning of what was to be a Reston-like town to allow a stadium to be in this part of the county. There is no stadium in Reston & its quite successful. I regret moving here expecting it to be like Reston. Instead of a lovely retirement community I'm getting a circus of noisy events until 11pm 2500 feet away. As a senior who sleeps by 9:30pm, fireworks at …   more ›

Hounds at One Loudoun or Bust?

Opponents are not buying assertions that Loudoun professional sports rely on a ballpark at the development.

As the Loudoun Planning Commission wades through a proposal to permit a 5,500-seat stadium in the One Loudoun development, the case supporters appear to be developing is that Loudoun could miss its opportunity to land two professionals sports teams. Opponents of the ballpark aren't buying it. Those against the park – whose concerns include noise, lights, traffic and the loss of planned office space – turned out along with supporters for a public hearing Tuesday night in Leesburg. Comments were pretty evenly divided. Opponents included residents of the Potomac Green and Ashbrook communities, and those concerns about the Blue Heron rookery nearby; but there were also supporters from Potomac Green. Supporters primarily included baseball and …

And if I had bought a home in One Loudoun, and found that a stadium is being added, I would be thrilled. Neither of us actually have bought a home there. Again, how were the Hounds supposed to move into Kincorra, when Kincorra hasn't been able to do anything in years?   more ›

We know where the PA system will be located and the direction that it will be focused, but no one has told us where the amplifiers for rock concerts will be focused, outfield toward stands/bleachers or opposite. The promoters also seem to think that noise generated by patrons attending the soccer or baseball games and those generated by the 10000 concert patrons is negligible. They never mention …   more ›

NASL Soccer Signs on at One Loudoun

Fans are invited to get involved by helping name the new team, which plans to play at a stadium at One Loudoun.

As last week’s election weighed heavy on the minds of many in Loudoun, and across the county, soccer enthusiasts here redirected their focus as several partners gathered in Leesburg to celebrate the North American Soccer League’s planned expansion with a county-based team. The news first came shortly before the Loudoun Hounds announced plans to move the team’s proposed baseball stadium, which the NASL team plans to share, from Kincora to One Loudoun. That stadium must still win land use approvals. “The NASL has a long and glorious tradition as a quality professional league and we are proud to join them in 2014,” said Bob Farren, chairman and founder of VIP Sports & Entertainment, the entity bringing the Hounds to Loudoun, in a press …

Photo Focus: Briar Woods Hosts LoCo in Softball and Soccer

Falcons grab soccer victory but fall to Raiders softball.

The rain finally let up enough Friday for the local high schools to do something it seemed they hadn't done much the last couple of weeks – play some games. With the Ashburn schools taking part in at least eight different contests, Patch sports shot pictures of two great Briar Woods games against the Loudoun County Raiders. The Falcon softball team lost a tough pitcher's duel to LoCo. Macy Jones' struck out 13 batters and held the Raiders to just one run. But the Falcons could never get their offense on track and lost by the final score of 1-0. The Falcon boys soccer team notched its first victory of the season with a 2-0 win over LoCo. Mike Venkat got the Falcons on the board with a first half strike, and Dave Behrendt put the game out of…
