As last week’s election weighed heavy on the minds of many in Loudoun, and across the county, soccer enthusiasts here redirected their focus as several partners gathered in Leesburg to celebrate the North American Soccer League’s planned expansion with a county-based team. The news first came shortly before the Loudoun Hounds announced plans to move the team’s proposed baseball stadium, which the NASL team plans to share, from Kincora to One Loudoun. Maneuvering continues in other localities to become the NFL team's new headquarters, while Loudoun hopes to keep the training facility in the county.
Localities across the region have been trying for years to pry the Washington Redskins from their current home in Ashburn. While the discussions continue, rocky notions have failed to result in solid plans. Loudoun's elected officials are well aware of the moves afoot to lure the team away from Redskins Park, where it recently constructed an indoor training facility tentatively dubbed the "practice bubble." Earlier this year, the team received an overture from Supervisor Shawn Williams (R-Broad Run), who represents the district that includes Redskins Park, urging the team to stay in Ashburn and possibly construct its Hall of Fame in Loudoun County.
