Ken Reid Wins Race for Supervisor

Just hours after the election results were in, Supervisor candidate Ken Reid (R) posted a letter on his campaign website thanking, “the great citizens of Leesburg” for giving him the honor of serving as the next Loudoun County Supervisor.

Reid won with 3,253 votes (51.40%) compared to his opponent Kelly Burk (D) who received 3,065 votes (48.43%), just 188 votes shy. 

Reid said he believes voters elected him because of the record of his accomplishments, his availability to others, and the fact that he is a “work horse” when it comes to getting things done.

Reid said he did extensive door to door campaigning during the election season where he had numerous conversations with local residents about their employment problems, school and town issues, while listening to some of their ideas.

“I feel like door to door campaigning is critical to the local election,” Reid said. “I probably interacted with 4,000 people. That’s how extensive my campaign work was.”

Although there were a lot of Republicans who came out to vote, Reid said he feels as though he had a lot of Democratic support. East Leesburg is a very Democratic prescinct, he said, and there was clearly an effort for change.

Poll results showed that Reid led four of eleven precincts, which included the 505 – Cool Spring precinct with 547 votes (63.53%), 506 – Brandon Park with 168 votes (53.33%), 508 – Balls Bluff with 368 votes (57.95%) and 510 – Heritage with 311 votes (61.34%).

As Supervisor, one of the first things Reid said he would like to do is meet with the Town Council and the Board of Supervisors to discuss funding for the Balch Library annexation. His first and foremost priority for the County is to get jobs for the people who live here.

“It’s going to be a continuation of the services and issues that I have championed for the last five years as a Council member," Reid said. "to make sure that taxes are not increased, to make sure that we grow the job space, the commercial space and transportation is probably my number one passion and my number one area of expertise. It was probably the top issue of concern that Leesburg voters expressed to me."

There is also the task of ensuring quality schools. There is now a group of reform minded school board members who were elected, Reid said, who are going to scrutinize the way things have been spent and the way things have been administered.

“Bill Fox and I work very, very well together and I’m going to try to reach out to the other school board members as well,” Reid said. “I’m ready to go to work to help the Town Council and the Town of Leesburg on the Board of Supervisors.”
