The town has planned a ceremony Friday to welcome the business to an area targeted for economic development.

On Friday, the DunlapWeaver PLLC law firm, which has offices along the East Coast and in London, will officially open its new 11,000-square-foot headquarters on Church Street in downtown Leesburg, placing it within the town’s HUBZone. A ceremony is planned at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 6.

The U.S. Small Business Administration created HUBZone program – which stands for Historically Underutilized Business Zone – in 1997 to help drive economic development and job growth in distressed areas. HUBZone certification entitles businesses to competitive advantages when seeking federal contracts. Obtaining certification requires that businesses have their primary offices within a designated HUBZone, that they qualify as small businesses by SBA standards, that they are at least 51 percent American-owned and that at least 35 percent of its employees live in a HUBZone. The Leesburg HUBZone is the only HUBZone in Loudoun County. For more information, please visit www.leesburgva.gov/hubzone

“Since 2001, DunlapWeaver has been a significant contributor to Leesburg’s business community, particularly through the volunteer efforts of Tom and his partners to give back to the community,” Leesburg Economic Development Director Marantha Edwards said in the statement. “Located just down the street from the Mason Enterprise Center, which is at capacity, their building offers a great opportunity for new businesses to be located in the Leesburg HUBZone.”
