High Winds Crash Plane at Leesburg Executive Airport

Small plane overturns, lone person in the aircraft uninjured, according to Virginia State Police.

A small airplane crashed at the Leesburg Executive Airport on Tuesday morning, according to Virginia State Police.

The lone person in the single-engine Cessna, Robert L. Bailey Jr., 52, of Fairfax Station, was not injured.

Heading from Manassas, Bailey was attempting to land at the Leesburg airport when a strong gust of wind caught the aircraft and forced it to crash off of the runway and overturn.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were notified of the incident.
